The TEC-1™
defines a new approach to engine design that uses variable compression ratio to provide the fuel economy and emissions of a hybrid, with the torque of a diesel engine, at the cost of a standard V-6 gasoline engine of similar power. In automotive applications, it is projected that the fuel economy of the TEC-1™ will be 25-35% better than that of conventional gasoline engines of similar power, when measured in a standard U.S. driving cycle.
The TEC Helios™ engine uses variable compression ratio to double the power-to-weight density of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) engines running on JP-8 military fuel. For Predator-sized UAVs, the TEC Helios™ offers up to 1.3 horsepower per pound – more than twice that of current state-of-the-art JP-8 fueled engines in this class.
Our engines realize these benefits by utilizing Sinedrive™ technology, which mechanically doubles engine torque, and naturally allows engine compression ratio to be varied by a means that is as mechanically simple as shifting a gear in a transmission.
Round engines are better™.
