In place of a traditional crankshaft mechanism, the TEC-1™ and Helios™ engines use a Sinedrive™ to transfer motion from pistons to the driveshaft. 

TEC Sinedrive™ technology mechanically doubles engine torque, and naturally allows engine compression ratio to be varied by a means that is as mechanically simple as shifting a gear in a transmission.  

Fundamentally, both the TEC-1™ and the Helios™ are traditional inline six cylinder engines wrapped into a circle.
